If I'm going to spend more than $100 it's going to be on a more modern library. You know what? Every time I think I’m done with Garritan I simply think about my last year, and there’s so much that I need to be thankful to Garritan for providing food on my family’s table and a shelter over our heads.

I don't know that I'd upgrade to GPO5 though.

I already have most of the LABS stuff, Project SAM free orchestra, BBCO Discover. I really want CSS but as a hobbyist I'll probably end up with Spitfire Originals instead. GPO4 strings and the included Project SAM brass instruments would still hold up nicely for my use, but if it doesn't work then I need some new strings. But Native Access still shows I have valid licenses for all of these. Colossus was really handy but it's nonfunctional in Kontakt6. I was able to get Stormdrum (1) working in Kontakt 6, which is nice because now I can re-mix some of my old tracks.

though I have also switched to Mac in that 15-year gap! I might actually consider seeing if my old GPO4 library will work. after a 15-year break in composing I'm getting back into it, using more synths these days (ZebraHZ, Diva, etc) but now I'm looking for new orchestral sounds too. I eventually added Storm Drum and Colossus too but kept going back to GPO4.įast forward to today. It punched higher than its price would indicate. GPO4 was my go-to library in the early 2000's when I was scoring some short films as a hobby. In the end I will always love Garritan! I will always remember it with a sweet nostalgia! So in that context, someone who owns GPO 5 (I managed to sell it here!) can still use the pianos and the pipe organ patches it includes.

  • CFX Lite (or the full version) is imho one of the best value-for-money grand piano library.
  • Garritan Classic Pipe Organs: Value for money this is very nice library, because it offers 6 different pipe organs for any possible use (smaller older ones up to a huge modern monster-sized organ).
  • I believe that the 2 Garritan Libraries that hold up well up to 2020 are: No more comments here: the difference is a full Universe. Garritan World Instruments was replaced by Best Service Era II, Celtic Era and Dark Era. (Btw I understand that it is unfair to compare one low-priced library with a group of 3-4 libraries that cost 10 x times more!) It was replaced also by Requiem Light Symphonic Choirs and EWQL Symphonic Choirs (Gold). GPO 5 was replaced by EWQLSO Gold, EWHO Gold, and (more recently) by VSL Synchronized Special Editions. Let the other people waste thousands for better sounds that the average listener will not even understand the difference! OMG how frakking wrong I had been! I cannot afford libraries that cost thousands, but I slowly managed to buy some more things, always under sales, every 2-3 months. With 200 EUR that I spent for both libraries, I had everything that I was going to need for the next 10-20 years! I truly believed that! I will never forget how confident (and smart!) I was feeling at the time! I clearly remember that I was 100% sure that I will never need anything else in my life to compose music in the style of Epic Fantasy Soundtracks and Medieval / Celtic songs. I also started my journey to this magical world of sample libraries and DAWs (about one year ago) with GPO 5 and Garritan World Instruments.
